Inspection, Testing & Certification of Domestic Electrical Installations
A three-day short course followed by half day assessment aimed at anyone involved in the inspection and testing of electrical systems.

Certification is achieved on successful completion of both the practical assessment and written examination.

The course costs include examination entry fees, a choice of meals from our lunch menu and refreshments throughout the day.
Course Objective
To introduce a student with knowledge of the Wiring Regulations to the fundamentals of inspection and testing.
On successful completion candidates will be able to;

understand the dangers associated with testing
recognise the precautions necessary for the protection of personnel and equipment
understand the statutory and non-statutory requirements for testing of installations
carry out visual inspection of electrical installations in accordance with the Regulations
understand the requirements for periodic inspection and testing
perform appropriate electrical tests including the following:
continuity of protective conductors
continuity of ring final circuit conductors
insulation resistance
polarity
earth fault loop impedance
RCD and functional testing
determine appropriate test pass levels and interpret results correctly
correctly complete the relevant documentation.


Certification
A 2 hour multi-choice exam.
A 3-hour practical test

The practical assessment takes approximately 3 hours, this can if available be taken on the day following the written examination or at a later date at a time which is mutually convenient to both student and centre.

Course Content
The purpose of and periodicity of, Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations and Electrical Equipment.
The Requirements as described or implied in the relevant regulations.  i.e. The Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) and the current edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations.
Tests which must be carried out on Domestic, Commercial, Industrial Installations.
Proving test Instruments used for testing Electrical Installations.
Approved procedures to be followed when Inspecting and Testing typical Electrical Installations and Equipment.
The purpose of Completion, Inspection and Test Certificates for New Installations, additions to Electrical Installations and for Electrical Equipment.
Electrical Audits, Documentation and Computer Based Electrical Equipment Databases

Entry Requirements: We strongly recommend a 17th Edition qualification is achieved prior to sitting this course, though this is NOT an entry requirement.
